Five prototypes for five very different ideas, in one month, for Setec's intrapreneurship challenge.
At a glance
Prototyping five very different, highly technical ideas from Setec's intrapreneurship program in one month, two years in a row.
Prototypes that served as the basis for all 5 pitches, and a design system that sped up my work. I then kept working on the selected projects for several months.
Juggling five topics at once leaves little room for user research: I would have liked to test the ideas more with future users.
Project management, and the art of becoming an expert on a technical subject in record time.
Setec is one of Europe's leading engineering firms. I had the opportunity to work with them two years in a row on their intrapreneurship projects. The goal was to create prototypes for five very different ideas, each with significant technical dimensions.
Getting to grips with projects in such a short time and juggling between them is pretty tough, but it's extremely rewarding when you pull it off.
The first step for each project is of course to master everything inside out and become something of an expert myself. I spent a lot of time understanding and asking questions, sometimes even challenging the business models.
FigJam was a huge help for this kind of exercise.
Since these projects are a regular thing at Setec, I decided to create a design system that would serve as a single source of truth for components. It helped me work faster and more efficiently when designing the interfaces for each project.
At the end of the month, the 5 groups got to pitch their projects. My prototypes were used as the basis for their presentations that day. Afterwards, I kept working on the selected projects for several months. It was a heavy workload, but I learned a lot about project management.
